Abandoning FGC: Communicating Information and Better Practices to Policymakers

    Workshop Announcement

Abandoning FGC: Communicating Information and Better Practices to Policymakers

    Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

    25 August – 5 September 2003

In June 2002, the World Health Organization (WHO) sponsored a meeting in Mali on female genital cutting (FGC) for representatives of 10 African countries. During the meeting, the participants, who were members of each country’s FGC “focal point groups,” identified program needs and developed action plans specific to each context. One central need identified by several members of the teams was for training in policy-level communication and advocacy.

ThePopulation Reference Bureau(PRB), in collaboration with the National
Committee on Traditional Practices in Ethiopia (NCTPE) and CARE/Ethiopia, is
pleased to inform you of the upcoming workshop, Abandoning FGC: Communicating Information and Better Practices to Policymakers. This
workshop will provide basic policy-level communication and advocacy skills to establish or improve policies to abandon female genital cutting practices. The workshop is being partially sponsored by the USAID Bureau for Africa. The workshop will be held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, August 25-September 5, 2003.
